Youth Night

Free Activities for Youth and Teens

We’ve all heard the complaints. Today’s youth don’t get enough exercise and physical activity. All of their socializing is done online with their heads buried in their devices. Kids never just “hang out” and play anymore. There aren’t many affordable entertainment options for the youth in our area and It costs a small fortune to see a movie at the theatre. The Midland Y’s Mens Club understands the need for fun, affordable and safe recreation options for the kids and teens in our community. That’s why we sponsor a FREE Youth Night, every Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 PM at the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka in Midland.

So Much to Choose From

Youth Night at the Midland YMCA is open to all youth between the ages of 10 and 17 to come out and enjoy an evening of fun and activity with their friends, or maybe make some new ones! Participants have access to the pool, gymnasium, and the Youth Zone. Those 13 and older can also make use of the Wellness Centre. Supervision is provided and there are rules to be followed but it is also a chance for our youth to explore everything that this wonderful facility has to offer — absolutely FREE!

How It Works

Youth are asked to enter the YMCA via the Little Lake Park entrance and check in at the Membership Desk. Those 16 and older will be required to show photo identification and there is no admittance after 8 PM.

Be sure to dress appropriately in gym attire and bring along some clean, non-marking running shoes. If you’re planning to swim, don’t forget your suit and your towel. Access to the locker rooms is provided and everyone is strongly advised to bring a lock and secure your belongings. Leave your phones at home… technology use is strongly discouraged during program and activities and banned in all locker and change rooms.

Swim, Play, Grow

Come on in, the water’s fine! Kids are welcome to enjoy the pool all evening according to their swimming abilities. All participants will first be required to complete a facility swim assessment to determine which areas of the pool they can access.

The gymnasium is a great place to meet up with friends for a game of basketball or to run a few laps. Those 13 and over can use the Wellness Centre to try out the cardio machines or do some weightlifting.

The Youth Zone

Kids are also welcome to take a break and enjoy the Youth Zone. Relax and play some board games, ping pong, foosball and more! The Youth Zone is a joint venture with the Midland Rotary Club and the Huronia Community Foundations.

Next time your tween or teen complains that they have nothing to do and nowhere to go, show them this blog! For once, mom and dad will know best 🙂
